Spring Is Slowly Springing

At first we couldn't believe it!  For months the deciduous trees have been black against the sky.

Then one day in mid-September we noticed it hadn't rained for almost a week! Temperatures became so mild that Jan made the mistake of packing her hat away in the closet. But just as suddenly, it became very cold again with a wind blowing straight up out of Antarctica. The hat--which Bob doesn't particularly like--came back out of storage.

Jan on the way to work in Takapuna, wishing she had worn her wool coat and gloves, too.
Our receptionist said, "No! No! You must never put away your winter things until Christmas!" So now we know.

Nevertheless, new birds arrived in our neighborhood about 2 weeks ago, with lovely songs we'd never heard before, and the tress are budding.
